Teaching posts
2009 – 2012: Wimbledon College of Art and Design (London)
Associate lecturer: I devised and taught the drawing elective for three consecutive years, planning, teaching and assessing the course; I organised trips, workshops, and invited visiting artists.
2009 – 2011: Canterbury College (Kent)
BA lecturer: As a part-time lecturer on the BA fine art course, I organised trips, ran workshops and supported students through one-to-one tutorials for both studio practice and written work. The course was particularly structured to be accesible to people claiming Personal Independance Payments, so I gained experience of working with many students with specific learning support requirements.
2010-2011: Brunel University (Hillingdon)
Course leader: I ran adult education evening courses, one for the general public and another that was specifically organised for carers. The latter required a careful and sensitivity assessment of students’ needs, most of whom had no background in art.

Research________________________________________________________
Using painting, drawing and at times performance and installation, my solo practice works with a personal archive of collected images; suggesting and questioning narratives and exploring visual poetry. The oblique but visually seductive paintings and drawings shift from representation to abstraction, working together in a complexity of meaning.
I have used regular collaborative discussion and research to challenge me to pursue new ideas, the longest lasting of these projects was Better Place Portraiture. Darren Banks and I worked in installation, film, performance and drawing, discovering and exploring deception, magic and fetishism in our shared practice.
In teaching, my specialist subject has been drawing, emphasising its role at the heart of artistic dialogues; drawing as a means of thinking out loud, an aid to shared creative discovery. I look at drawing on the page and in an expanded sense. This has broad applications beyond a fine art framework. I use practical, technical and conceptual approaches within a series of workshops to enable art and design students to develop drawing skills that suit their particular requirements and interests. I have also taught painting, in particular colour theory, composition and narrative construction and taught fine art more broadly at an undergraduate and graduate level, always addressing the work from critical, conceptual, practical and visual perspectives.
